The School of Rock

Why see The School of Rock?

Sticking It To The Man On Tour

In 2003, Jack Black, Mike White, and a host of talented pre-teens made instantly-quotable movie magic in School Of Rock, an amplified comedy caper in which amateur rock enthusiast Dewey Finn impersonates his friend and becomes an unorthodox substitute teacher. Twelve years later, the beloved adventure jumped off the screen and onto the stage in Andrew Lloyd Webber's smash-hit Broadway musical.  A West End transfer soon followed, giving way to the hotly anticipated UK tour.

A bonafide musical theatre phenomenon, the School of Rock stage franchise has been met with universal adoration, spawning tours all over the world from China to South Africa. Bringing together a stellar creative team including Tony-winning lyricist Glenn Slater and Oscar-winning playwright Julian Fellowes amongst others, the beloved production is bursting with rebellion, wit, and heart!

What Is School of Rock About?

The rollicking rock and roll adventure begins when down-on-his-luck rock god wannabe Dewey Finn is kicked out of No Vacancy, the band he started, for trying to upstage the lead singer. Things get much worse when his roommate Ned and Ned's domineering girlfriend Patti demand the rent he owes. To top it off, he's fired from his job at the record store. When he gets a phone call from the prestigious Horace Green Prep School, Dewey assumes Ned's identity and begins to teach at the fine establishment. Soon realizing the kids are pretty talented, he hatches a plan to win a local Battle of the Bands competition that may not go down too well with the school board...

Superb stage show

I went last night, Friday 8th July 22 at the Liverpool Empire. I love the film so couldn't wait to see the musical. I have to say, I was blown away by the performance of the actor playing Dewey Fin. In my opinion, he was better in that role than Jack Black. Special mentions also go to Miss Mullins and Ned Scheebly who were both superb. Lastly the kids, the level of music and singing was off the scale. Again special mention to the girl playing Tomika and her solo. Out of this world. If you are a fan of the film, you will not be disappointed. 10/10 ... Read more
